Creating Inclusive Community Organizations

This participatory action research project was undertaken by OHCC in 2005-2006 to test the organizational change process outlined in our publication, Inclusive Community Organizations: A Tool Kit. With assistance from OHCC, four small to mid-sized non-profit organizations engaged in an organizational change process in order to become more inclusive of diverse community members. The learning that resulted from this project has been incorporated into OHCC's consultation and training services and will be included in future editions of the Tool Kit.

Inclusive Community Organizations: A Tool Kit

The Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition (OHCC) has developed a Tool Kit to assist community organizations in becoming more equitable, diverse and inclusive than they are at present.

The purpose of our Tool Kit is to support diversity and improve inclusion within small to mid-sized, volunteer-based, not-for-profit organizations. It provides the necessary foundation for community organizations to develop a "critical lens" which will allow them to reflect on their organization's current position and respond effectively to ensure that they reflect local demographics. The suggestions offered will enable community organizations to develop and adapt initiatives that are appropriate to their individual circumstances.

Copies of the Tool Kit may be purchased by contacting OHCC's Central Office at 1-800-766-3418 or through our contact page.
