Helping to Build Healthy Communities

The Ministry of Health Promotion has launched a new integrated and holistic approach to health promotion entitled “Healthy Communities Ontario." It is designed to encourage the development of new partnerships and strengthen existing ones, resulting in improved access to priority health promotion programs and services for Ontarians.

The Healthy Communities Consortium, funded by the Ministry of Health Promotion as part of the Healthy Communities Ontario approach, has been created to help community organizations and groups that are building healthy communities through a wide range of activities in areas such as healthy eating, physical activity, sport and recreation, injury prevention, mental health promotion, tobacco use and substance and alcohol misuse.

The Healthy Communities Consortium (HCC) is a collaborative effort of five organizations that collectively have more than 25 years experience in health promotion.

•    FOCUS Resource Centre (FRC)
•    Health Promotion Hub (HPP)
•    Heart Health Resource Centre (HHRC)
•    OHCC Healthy Communities Support Services (OHCC)
•    Ontario Drug Awareness Partnership (ODAP)

Organizations and groups who could benefit from The Consortium’s services include:

• Those applying for or interested in applying for a Healthy Communities Fund grant;
• Those who have received a Healthy Communities Fund grant:
• Healthy Communities Partnerships: and
• Those working with or interested in working with a Healthy Communities Partnership.

Services offered by the Consortium include:

• Onsite consultation and facilitation services;
• Consultation and coaching support via e-mail or telephone;
• Workshops, professional development and networking opportunities via regional and provincial events and webinars; and
• Referrals to effectively connect organizations with other sources of services and supports.
