Climate has brought about unfavorable weather conditions such as flooding and record-high heatwaves all over the globe. Some communities are even more vulnerable to others. Aside from disrupting livelihoods and habitats, climate change also poses a threat to health.

The report being led by Health Canada focuses on the adverse effects of climate change on the health of the population. It will discuss the vulnerabilities in current policies. It also aims to create strategies that are acceptable to different communities so that no one gets left behind with sustainable development.

The report titled “The Health of Canadians in a Changing Climate: Advancing our Knowledge for Action” is set to be released sometime in 2021. It was done in collaboration with different communities, organizations, and health professionals. It aims to assess the risks climate change can bring to health as well as to the current healthcare system.

Compared to the previous assessment in 2014, the new assessment provides:

  • The recent developments of climate change and its effects on health
  • More focus on vulnerable populations such as seniors, children, low-income neighborhoods, indigenous people, and people with preceding health conditions

An Approach to Health Best Practices

It aims to uphold and support the initiatives of public health workers, organizations, and health researchers, and decision-makers at each level.
