Engagement is a cornerstone of healthy communities. There are many different ways that people can participate in creating a healthy community; for example, volunteering at a tree planting, participating in a workshop, joining a citizens’ advisory committee to improve community services or creating a community coalition to research and develop policies that will promote healthier eating.
OHCC promotes community engagement in a variety of ways:
Communications: OHCC provides opportunities for people to share their resources and experiences and to learn from others through our monthly online bulletin, community stories on our website, Twitter and Facebook.
Consulting services: Our consultants have helped organizations to engage their community in developing strategic plans, build partnerships, plan and facilitate community meetings, and create community engagement policies.
Some of the services recently provided by OHCC consultant are:
- facilitating a community meeting to explore the development of a food hub
- providing advice to an organization and its community partners on network approaches
- providing resources on facilitation process and techniques
- stakeholder consultations on the development of a strategic plan
